Strategy is Not a To-Do List - Strategy Demonstrates Your Growth Potential
The 5 Most Important Strategic Questions You Must Ask Yourself To Be More Effective In Less Time & Get Better Things Done With Strategy
Is Strategy just as simple as making a to-do list?
Below are the five most important existential and strategic questions in creating a working strategy that you must ask yourself to harness your strategic thinking.
Do you really need a strategy? Or, can I just make a list of things that are important to do?
Many people think that strategy is just a list of tasks to be completed. But this is not the case. Strategy is about making choices about how you will achieve your goals. It's about deciding what you will focus on and what you will not. Strategy helps you build priorities; a to-do list is simply tasks that you must complete, with no relative or strategic important attached to them.
A to-do list is simply a list of tasks that need to be done. It does not take into account the big picture or the strategic goals of your organization.
Ok, let's get existential about business, shall we?
What is the difference between strategy and a to-do task list?
They can at times seem very similar, if you're not thinking big picture, and focusing only on working IN your business instead of ON your business.
"You've got a business, so just get doing 'stuff', right?"
Here's the big differences between strategy and to-do lists:
- Strategy is about the future. A to-do list is about the present. Strategy is about what you want to achieve in the future, while a to-do list is about what you need to do today.
- Strategy is about making choices. A to-do list is about completing tasks. Strategy is about deciding what tasks are important and what tasks can be deferred.
- Strategy is about alignment. A to-do list is about individual tasks. Strategy is about ensuring that everyone in the organization is working towards the same goals.
Starting with Strategy is easier than you might think.
It's time to put your strategy on a page.
If you want to be successful, you need to have a strategy. A to-do list will not get you there. You can make a strategy as simple as possible - make it a strategy on a page, or get the answers you want in 60 seconds or less - if you know which questions to ask
So, how do you create a strategy?
Here are five steps to help you get started:
- Define your purpose. Why do you exist? What is your mission? What are your goals?
- Identify your target audience. Who are you serving? What are their needs and wants?
- Differentiate yourself. What makes you unique? What value do you offer that your competitors do not?
- Create a competitive advantage. How will you achieve your goals? What strategies will you use?
- Measure your success. How will you know if you are winning?
Creating a strategy takes time and effort, but it is worth it. A good strategy will help you achieve your goals and be successful. A Strategy will clearly demonstrate your growth potential - how you will achieve business growth.
Not by by just doing random things to keep yourself busy, and to fight-fires in your business, but being very specific about how these things can affect the longer term outcome of your business.
Here are some additional tips for creating a strategy on a page:
- Keep it simple. Your strategy should be easy to understand and remember.
- Be flexible. The world is constantly changing, so your strategy should be able to adapt.
- Involve your team. Get input from your team members so that everyone is on board with the strategy. Top-down strategy doesn't work anymore, regardless the size of your organization.
- Review your strategy regularly. Make sure your strategy is still relevant and that you are on track to achieve your goals.
Strategy is not a to-do list.
It is a roadmap for success. If you want to be successful, you need to have a strategy.
If you can follow these tips, you will be well on your way to creating a successful strategy on a page.
Here are the 5 most important strategic questions in creating a working strategy on a page that you must ask yourself to experience Growth
Here Are the TOP 5 BEST STRATEGIC Questions That every business leader and entrepreneur needs to know to understand and execute their growth potential. If you don't then you might not be a strategic thinker or you might not be thinking as strategically as you could be. Yes, they are existential questions about business.
Will your growth potential suffer as a result? Will you be able to harness your growth potential otherwise?
1. Why do you exist?
This is the most important question that a company can ask itself. It's the foundation of everything else, from the company's mission and vision to its products and services. A company's "why" should be something that is inspiring and aspirational, and it should give employees a sense of purpose.
For example, the company's "why" could be to "make the world a better place" or "to help people achieve their dreams." It could also be something more specific, such as "to provide affordable housing" or "to create innovative new technologies."
2. What's your big idea?
Once you know your company's "why," you need to figure out what your big idea is. This is the unique thing that your company does that no one else does. It could be a product, a service, a way of doing business, or anything else that sets your company apart. For example, Google's big idea was to "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." Apple's big idea was to "create products that are beautifully designed, simple to use, and incredibly user-friendly."
3. How do you deliver your value?
Once you know your company's "why" and your big idea, you need to figure out how you're going to deliver value to your customers. This means understanding your customers' needs and pain points, and then developing products and services that address those needs.
For example, Amazon delivers value to its customers by offering a wide variety of products at competitive prices, as well as convenient and reliable shipping. Netflix delivers value to its customers by offering a large selection of movies and TV shows that can be streamed on demand.
4. Who are you serving?
It's important to know who you're serving when you're running a business. This means understanding your target market and their needs. It also means understanding your customers' pain points and how you can help them solve those problems. For example, Facebook serves a wide range of people, but its core target market is young adults. Facebook understands that young adults are looking for a way to connect with friends and family, and it provides them with a platform to do that.
5. How do you know you're winning?
There are a number of ways to measure success, but the most important thing is to track your progress towards your goals. This means setting clear goals and then tracking your progress against those goals.
You can also measure success by looking at things like customer satisfaction, revenue growth, and market share. If you're seeing positive results in these areas, then you're probably on the right track.
Answer these questions, and then yes, create a to-do list, but now it becomes a priority list of what's important and what can wait. Then you can start to build a roadmap.
By taking the time to answer these questions, you can develop a clear understanding of your company's purpose, its big idea, and how you're going to deliver value to your customers. This will help you to stay focused and on track as you build your business.
Here are some final thoughts on strategy:
- Strategy is not a one-time thing. It is an ongoing process that needs to be reviewed and updated regularly.
- Strategy is not about perfection. It is about making the best decisions possible with the information you have at the time.
- Strategy is about execution. It is not enough to have a good strategy. You also need to be able to execute it effectively.
